HOW IT ALL BEGAN
A Nigerian man legally resident in the USA, married to an American citizen and after few years they have a new born baby. Before the arrival of the new born baby, the man made a promise to his extended family in Nigeria that if his wife have a baby he will send for few of them especially his senior brother to come to the United States to do the eight day naming ceremony. When the time was approaching he sent invitation letters to his brother and his close friends.
OBTAINING VISITING VISA
The brother along with other friends acquired passport and seek the help of a professional Agent to apply for an American visiting visa. Subsequently, they were invited for physical interviews at the United States Embassy in Lagos. Because of the authenticity of the invitation letter and others supporting documents from his brother from the United States, they have no problem in obtaining the visiting visa.
DEPARTING NIGERIA FOR THE UNITED STATES
Immediately the baby was born the parent informed his extended family in Nigeria. Having obtained the visa in advance, the senior brother and his friends have no problem in securing returned tickets and headed for the United States. They successfully arrived before the eight day designated for the ceremonial naming ceremony.
DEMAND FOR A NAMING CEREMONY 🐏
Few days after arriving in the United States precisely a day before the naming ceremony, the visitors with their traditional Nigerian mentality seriously enquire from their host for the naming ceremony live Ram to be slaughtered on the day of the naming ceremony. Their host explained to them as much as he could that it’s not an ideal option in the United States to kill an Animal in a residential building, however, they can go to the abattoir to do the slaughtering. The visitors objected vehemently, that it’s against their tradition back home and its an abomination to do a naming ceremony without killing a Ram afterwards. Their host and his wife did everything to convince them to no avail m they said said he should not prevent them. They went further that assuming they know he will prevented them they will not not bother to come.
Reluctantly, their host accepted to show them the place where they can buy a live Ram but said he will not participate in buying it, he chartered a taxi to take them there. The mother of the child also tried to convince them they were adamant in their unusual adventure.
THE NEW COMMERS PURCHASED A BIG RAM
Our friends from Nigeria successfully purchased a relatively big Ram, however in their inexperienced attitude they easily displayed an unruly behaviour and showed a disregard for the way things are done normally in any United States communities. The way they were conducting themselves easily gave them away easily as strangers who have no regards or respect for animals. Having paid for the Ram, the seller pointed to the designated abattoir where they will slaughter the animal. Strangely, our friends told the man not bother himself because the are taking the Ram home to be slaughtered tomorrow for a ceremony. In his presence them grabbed the animals and tied it down rudely and put it inside the car’s boot.
THE SELLER CALLED THE POLICE
Witnessing the unruly behaviour and the rudely way our friends handled the Ram the sell called the police and on arrival the police asked them to open the boot and for the reason for the mishandling of the animal. Stupidity they still displayed their unruly behavior. The police asked for their papers, they told him they have them in their host place of residence. The police followed them to the place. The police interrogated everyone and easily found that our friends were the ones who were responsible for all the crude ways they handled the animal. They untied the animal and asked them to settle the taxi driver and allowed him to go.
OUR NIGERIA FRIENDS WERE DEPORTED
The police asked for the visitors travelling documents realisingthat they were on visit to the United States. Without long explanations our friends were arrested and escorted to the Airport. Their host returned the Ram to the abattoir for the normal slaughtering.
HOW I GOT TO KNOW ABOUT THEM
As an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration working at the Lagos International Airport I headed the Duty Room and when they deported the unruly Nigerians, I was on duty and after the necessary profiling it’s part of my duties to interrogate all Nigerians deported or repatriated at any time, hence, on interrogations the four friends confessed why they were deported from the United States
