The minimum academic qualifications applicants will need to have in order to be considered eligible to apply for Customs Service is either SSCE, HND,  BSC certificates or other related certificates depending on the particular cadre to be applied for. 

Requirements for Nigeria Customs Recruitment 

The following are the basic requirements every applicant must meet before applying for customs recruitment: 

1. All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
2. Applicants must have completed their O levels or higher education depending on the position they intend to apply for. 
3. Age must be between 18-35 years
4. If you have ever served a prison sentence, do not bother to apply.
5. Not less than 1.7 metres in height for males and 1.64 metres for females. 
6. Should have a fully expanded chest measurement of not less than 0.87 metres, male.
7. Applicants must be physically and mentally fit. This surely must be certified by a Government Medical Officer for an appointment in Service. 
8. Applicants must be free from debt or any form of financial embarrassment. 
9. Candidates must be of good character and have not been found guilty of any criminal offence. 
10. All applicants should possess a certificate of origin signed appropriately by the Chairman/Secretary of their Local Governments.
11. You must submit the appropriate document for your desired cadre. 
12. Do not submit more than one application. Or else, you will be disqualified. 

The Nigeria Customs Service is well known for its transparency and standards towards its recruitment exercises. Immediately after your application is submitted, it will be filed alongside other applications. Candidates who are picked will be notified and called up for the next phase of the NCS recruitment exercise. 

Certificates or qualifications you do not declare during application shall not be accepted after the recruitment exercise.

Positions Available In Customs Recruitment

The positions available for application into the Nigerian Customs Service are divided into three cadres;

1. Assistant Cadre:

These are junior ranking officers comprising the Customs assistant.

2. Superintendent Cadre

The Superintendent Cadre is a position for senior ranking officers,  comprising Assistant Superintendents of Custom.

3. Inspectorate Cadre

The Inspector Cadre are Mid-Level officers comprising the Assistant Inspectors of Custom.

Also, applicants must possess a minimum of 3-credit passes from a minimum of 2 sittings in any of the following subjects:

The reputation of the Nigerian Customs Service 

The service’s reputation has been tinted by several corrupt and fraud scandals across the years. According to Transparency International’s 2010 Global Corruption Barometer, more than half of local households surveyed accepted claims to paying bribes to NCS officers in 2009. 

To date, complex customs regulations and bureaucracy surrounding the import and export of goods has nurtured an environment in which bribe is common. Several companies are believed to undervalue their goods upon importation to avoid customs duties. There are many examples of everyday Nigerian businessmen who pay bribes to customs officials in order to smooth the passage of their goods, inside or outside the country.

Step 1. Wait till the official portal is open.

Step 2. Complete the application form when registration commences. 

Step 3. Print out all necessary documents. 

Step 4. Take note of the examination and screening date, so you don’t miss out. 

Step 5. After completing the application processes, wait till you get notified you have been selected. 

NCS is a paramilitary organization supervised by the Nigerian Ministry of Finance and headed by the comptroller general, who oversees 6 deputy comptroller generals working in the following departments:

The institution’s board is chaired by the minister of Finance.
